BBS UK Membership Audit
In 2021, we conducted a membership audit to better understand the impact of BBS and to inform our work over the coming years.
Who completed the audit?
- 50% of people are the parent of someone diagnosed with BBS
- 37% completed it as a person themselves diagnosed with BBSÂ
- 13% completed it on behalf of an adult diagnosed with BBSÂ
- 80% have a genetic diagnosis
- 20% have a clinical diagnosis
- 14% of respondents are employed full or part-time
- 10% undertake voluntary work
- 42% of respondents said that BBS affects their/their child’s life mildly to moderately
- 57% stated that the impact was severe to very severe.Â
In terms of the views that were represented:
- 38% are under 18Â
- 38% are aged 18-34Â
- 21% are aged 35-54Â
- 3% are aged 55+Â
- 58% of respondents are registered as Severely Sight ImpairedÂ
- 19% are registered as Sight ImpairedÂ
- 22% have sight loss that does not meet the criteriaÂ
- 1% have chosen not to be registeredÂ
In terms of how long ago the person was diagnosed with BBS:
- 4% were within the last 12 monthsÂ
- 23% between 1 and 5 years agoÂ
- 27% between 5 and 10 years agoÂ
- 46% were diagnosed over 10 years agoÂ
Respondents experience the following symptoms either moderately or severely:
